Distressed Jeans

October 16th, 2006

I was in my favorite department store the other day looking for some college clothing that would be casual and comfortable to walk around campus with.  I looked all over the college area and I found a few good pairs of pants but what I was astonished at were the number of styles of pants that come pre tarnished and tattered.  Personally, I am one of those people who would like to buy a quality product that will last a long time, and also, I would rather be the one doing destruction to my own apparel.  Anyways, I started investigating these pre destructed (Distressed to  be politically correct) pants a little more to see that they were actually more expensive than the regular pairs of pants which made me think to myself that I actually would have to spend more money to get pants with holes in them!  Does this seem wrong to anyone??  I am still in shock about this whole thing.  Why would anyone in their right mind want to spend more money to buy something that is of lesser quality and probably won’t last as long?  I wonder where clothing design is going to go after this, maybe pre-worn jeans will be the next craze.  Wear the pants for a couple weeks and then put them on the rack and sell them for twice as much as you paid for them because they were pre-worn!

I just can’t believe that society is taking this turn in its fashion.  We went from being clean cut individuals to seeing who can have the most rips, paint spills etc.

This is my rant for the week.

Geocaching

September 20th, 2006

As many of you know I work for CESA #4 (Cooperative Educational Service Agency Number 4) based in West Salem.  Over the course of the year we have many many events.  One event that we just had was a network night where over 50 teachers get together and learn about a certain topic.  This week was Geocaching.  The training went well and everyone really liked the idea, infact, because of this training I believe several individuals will be trying to get a set of GPS receivers for their classrooms.  Good luck to those people and I hope your goal is achieved.  I also wanted to use this blog post to plug the geocaching website (www.geocaching.com)  You will find a lot of cool stuff on this site and you will also get to see just how many caches are in the area!  This past summer I had the opportunity to actually go geocaching and I must say, it was actually a lot of fun!  I highly recommend that people create their own accounts to be able to login to the site and get the exact info required for going to the caches!  Happy Hunting!
